Rule consequentialism makes it much easier for us to know the right thing to do. Rather than trying to predict the benefits and harms of each available action, and then trying to balance them against one another, we are instructed to follow relatively simple rules. The complex and difficult calculations associated with act utilitarianism are replaced by fairly straightforward rules.
