7 November was celebrated during the Soviet era as the Day of the Revolution and workers were given the day off. It has subsequently been proposed that the day should be commemorated as the Day of Agreement and Reconciliation instead. However, it is not clear what reconciliation is being commemorated. This leaves the implicit suggestion to Russians that there are no crimes to be commemorated.
