Procedure to eliminate biases.

Debiasing = procedure for reducing or eliminating biases from the cognitive strategies of the decision maker --> extremely difficult process that must be closely monitored and guided by a psychological framework for change.

  • Unfreezing old strategies is crucial to changing the decision-making processes of individuals
  • Change: 1) clarification of the existence of judgmental deficiencies 2) explanation of the roots of these deficiencies 3) reassurance that these deficiencies should not be taken as a threat to the individual’s self-esteem
  • Refreezing: do not revert to past practices, continue to examine your decisions for bias
