2. In 1905 Dresden artists led by Kirchner formed a group called Die Brucke which means the Bridge because they wanted to form a bridge to the art of the future. They did not call themselves expressionists. Like the Fauves they were influenced by primitive art. Their subject was often a Bohemian life style trather shocking at this time.
